NYR Prospects in Postseason: March 31 Recap

Seven Rangers prospects competed in postseason play on Friday night in the OHL and WHL playoffs, and several had big nights for their teams.

Here is a player-by-player look at their performances:

SauerMichael Sauer
Position: Defense
Team: Portland Winter Hawks (WHL)
Playoff Series: Portland vs. Seattle (series tied 2-2)
Sauer's Playoff Scoring to Date: 4 games, 3 goals, 2 assists
March 31: Seattle 6, Portland 3 (at Portland)

Sauer scored his third goal of the playoffs on a power play at 4:17 of the third period, cutting Seattle's lead to 5-3. Portland later pulled its goalie for the extra attacker, and Seattle iced the game with an empty-netter.

Position: Right Wing
Team: Saskatoon Blades (WHL)
Playoff Series: Saskatoon vs. Regina (Saskatoon leads 3-2)
Bahensky's Playoff Scoring to Date: 5 games, 1 goal, 2 assists
March 31: Regina 5, Saskatoon 2 (at Saskatoon)

Bahensky had the second assist on Joe Logan's power-play goal at 11:25 of the third period, cutting Regina's lead to 4-2, as the Blades fell behind early and missed a chance to close out the series.

KoverkoTrevor Koverko
Position: Defense
Team: Owen Sound Attack (OHL)
Playoff Series: Owen Sound vs. Kitchener (Owen Sound wins series 4-1)
Koverko's Playoff Scoring to Date: 5 games, 0 goals, 0 assists
March 31: Owen Sound 4, Kitchener 3 (OT) (at Kitchener)

Koverko didn't crack the scoresheet, but helped his team win an overtime thriller at Kitchener to close out the series and advance to the second round. Mike Angelidis notched the winner for the Attack on a power play at 4:30 of OT. Koverko received a minor penalty for cross-checking in the first period.

DubinskyBrandon Dubinsky
Position: Center

Playoff Series: Portland vs. Seattle (series tied 2-2)
Dubinsky's Playoff Scoring to Date: 4 games, 1 goal, 3 assists
March 31: Seattle 6, Portland 3 (at Portland)

Dubinsky was held without a point for the second straight game, although he was plus-1 for the evening. He also had 16 minutes in penalties, including a 10-minute misconduct late in the second period.

Team: Kootenay Ice (WHL)

After a big performance in Game 4, Russell was shut down in Game 5, as the defending WHL champion Rockets won their second straight to push the Ice to the brink of elimination.

Flatt did not record a point for the third consecutive game after picking up points in each of the first two games.

Captain Staal and the Wolves were shut out for the first time in the series, missing a chance to put the Frontenacs away on the road.
