Richter did not record a point or take any penalties in the Czechs' 1-1 tie with the host nation. David Vyborny notched the lone Czech goal at 19:32 of the first period, and Latvian netminder Sergei Naumovs made 31 saves to stifle the high-powered Czechs. Richter's fellow Rangers prospect Jan Marek, a late addition to the Czech team, had been on the roster but was cut hours before the tournament.

In other games at the World Championship tournament on Friday, Team USA beat Norway 3-1, Finland beat Slovenia 5-3 and Canada downed Denmark 5-3.
