The Rangers will play their first regular season game versus the 2009 Stanley Cup Champion Pittsburgh Penguins on Friday, Oct. 2, at 7:30 p.m.

MSG will televise a half-hour pre-game show for all Rangers matchups on the network this season and most games will be followed by a post-game show. The popular “Hockey Night Live!” will return for its third season debuting Saturday, October 3 from 9:30 – 10:30 p.m. on MSG and MSG Plus, following the Rangers home opener. The show will air every Saturday evening throughout the season.

Sam Rosen will return for his 25th season as the play-by-play voice for the Rangers and will be joined for the fourth season by in-game analyst Joe Micheletti. Rangers’ hockey on MSG is directed by Bob Lewis and produced by Joe Whelan. Dan Ronayne serves as executive vice president and general manager for MSG Networks, and Jeff Filippi is vice president of production.

The Rangers will kick off their preseason tonight on MSG at 7 p.m. playing host to the Boston Bruins. Before the Rangers vs. Washington preseason game on Thursday, Sept. 24, MSG will premiere a special one-hour “Rangers 2009-10 Season Preview” show at 6:00 p.m.

MSG Networks will continue its unprecedented commitment to the NHL, as MSG and MSG Plus will combine to telecast over 300 live Rangers, New York Islanders, New Jersey Devils and Buffalo Sabres games during the 2009-2010 hockey season.
