Mike Richter Becomes Rangers All-Time Leader in Wins by a Goaltender

New York Rangers’ goaltender Mike Richter registered his 267th victory of his Rangers/ NHL career tonight vs. the Toronto Maple Leafs, passing Eddie Giacomin as the Rangers’ all-time wins leader. Richter recorded 30 saves on 31 shots en route to the Rangers’ 2-1(OT) victory over the Maple Leafs.
Richter, in his 13th NHL season, has played his entire career with New York after being selected as the team’s second round draft choice, 28th overall, in the 1985 NHL Entry Draft. Entering tonight’s match, the 34-year old had appeared in 582 games, posting a mark of 266-221-66 along with a 2.89 goals against average. Richter currently ranks fifth among active NHL goaltenders in career wins with 267. Giacomin spent over 10 seasons in New York from 1965-1975, appearing in 539 games with a record of 266-169-90 along with a 2.73 goals against average.
A native of Abington, Pennsylvania, Richter previously established a franchise record for all-time games played by a goaltender when he appeared in his 583rd games of his Rangers/NHL career on January 8 against the Dallas Stars.
