Rangers President and General Manager Glen Sather announced today that defenseman Darius Kasparaitis will undergo shoulder surgery on Wednesday, May 10 to repair a tear in his labrum. The surgery will be performed by team physicians Dr. Andrew Feldman and Dr. Tony Maddalo at St. Vincent's Hospital.
Following the procedure, Kasparaitis is expected to make a full recovery in time for next season.
Kasparaitis, 33, skated in 67 games with the Rangers this season, registering six assists along with 97 penalty minutes. The 5-11, 218-pound defenseman led the team in penalty minutes (97) and his team-leading 195 hits tied for ninth in the NHL. In addition, Kasparaitis also represented Team Russia at the 2006 Winter Olympics, where he picked up two assists and eight penalty minutes in eight games.
