The New York Rangers are proud to announce today that Josh Rosenblum
of Rockville Centre, New York has been named as the club's 7th Man. Mr. Rosenblum was selected from more than 1,000 entries submitted to NHL.com (Zachary Rosenblum, son of 7th Man Award winner Josh Rosenblum, with Thomas Pock and Cory Larose - right).
As the New York Rangers Fan of the Year, Mr. Rosenblum receives a prize package including 20 tickets to a luxury suite during the Rangers vs. Buffalo game at Madison Square Garden on Wednesday, March 31 and will be honored on GardenVision during the game. In addition, Mr. Rosenblum will be entered into the League-wide contest to determine the NHL Fan of the Year from the 30 team winners.
The League and its 30 Member Clubs introduced the NHL 7th Man Award last year in celebration of its fans' dedication, passion and loyalty and to honor its fan of the year. The grand-prize winner of the 7th Man Award will receive a trip to New York to become "Commissioner for a Day" and will participate in a ceremonial opening face-off at Game One of the Stanley Cup Finals.
Fans entered on NHL.com or team websites by submitting an essay of up to 250 words describing their qualifications as the 7th Man of their favorite team. The fan whose essay best exemplified dedication, passion and loyalty to the NHL and to his or her favorite team was named the respective Club's local winner.
The 7th Man will be chosen from among the 30 local winners by an expert panel that includes NHL Commissioner Gary Bettman; actress/entertainer Whoopi Goldberg; ABC and CBC hockey analyst John Davidson; ESPN announcer Linda Cohn; TSN hockey analyst Pierre McGuire; actor/comedian/hockey enthusiast Denis Leary; and last year's winner, Roger Farina, a New York Islanders fan and U.S. Army helicopter pilot who was given leave while serving in Iraq to accept the inaugural honor.
Entrants will be judged on the following criteria:
1. How the nominee best exemplifies the attributes of a NHL fan through his or her dedication, passion and loyalty to the NHL and their favorite team.
2. The extent to which the nominee incorporates "fandom" into their everyday life and that of their family and friends.
3. The extent of the nominee's use of his or her favorite team's colors and logo.
Additional information on the 7th Man Contest, including the official rules, can be found on NHL.com and team websites.
