Dunham, Poti to 'Drive Fore the Goal'

by Staff Writer / New York Rangers

An all-star lineup of National Hockey League players will trade in their hockey sticks for golf clubs in the first-ever NHL Drive Fore the Goal at this year's PGA TOUR's Champions Tour FleetBoston Classic and will join forces with Champions Tour players to help raise money for a worthy cause.

The 2003 FleetBoston Classic gets underway at Nashawtuc Country Club in Concord, Mass., from July 28 to August 3, and during the final two championship rounds, NHL stars will compete against each other in the NHL Drive Fore the Goal, while playing alongside Champions Tour players for a $50,000 purse to be donated to the Boston-based Cam Neely Foundation for Cancer Care and giving hockey fans a chance to see their favorite players in the off season.

The NHL Drive Fore the Goal will take place over three days. On Friday, August 1, during the FleetBoston Classic's first championship round, 18 NHL stars are expected to participate in a best-ball Pro-Am event at the International in Bolton, Mass. Afterwards, players will conduct a "meet and greet" at Nashawtuc for youth hockey groups and FleetBoston Classic spectators.

On Saturday, August 2, 12 NHL players, who survive the Pro-Am cut in a field of 18, will compete in medal-play action, with one NHL player joining two Champions Tour pros in each of the last 12 groups to tee off that day. During the final FleetBoston Classic championship round on Sunday, August 3, the top six NHL players from Saturday's round will tee off in two threesomes as the sixth and seventh groups from the last threesome of pros.
