Predators defenseman Shea Weber scored as Team Canada defeated Switzerland 5-1 in a quarterfinal match Thursday at the IIHF World Championship in Moscow, Russia. Weber's goal, his first point of the tournament, closed the scoring with 2:29 remaining in regulation.
Calgary Flames forward Matthew Lombardi tallied twice to raise his goal total to six in seven games and goaltender Dwayne Roloson stopped 21 of 22 shots. Predators defenseman Dan Hamhuis was a +2 for the game. Canada now advances to face Sweden in a semifinal match on Saturday.
In Thursday's second game, Nashville blueliner Ryan Suter and his U.S. teammates were ousted from the tournament with a 5-4 shootout loss to Finland. Dallas Stars forward Jere Lehtinen ended the contest with the lone shootout goal, scored in the fifth round. Finland will now face Russia on Saturday in the tournament semifinals.
