Strong Weekend at Team USA Camp For Preds Prospects

by Jay Levin / Nashville Predators
Preds prospects Chase Balisy and Austin Watson made strong first impressions during the first two days of Team USA's Junior Evaluation Camp in Lake Placid.

Watson scored two goals in Saturday's scrimmage, the opening game of the week-long camp, including the game-winning goal with 4:21 left in regulation to lead USA Team Blue to a 4-3 win over USA Team White. He followed that up with an assist in last night's scrimmage game. His three points pace Team Blue and are just one behind camp leader Kenny Agostino.

Balisy also netted a pair of goals in Saturday's scrimmage, both in the third period to help USA Team White erase a one goal deficit and take a 3-2 lead late in regulation before Team Blue rallied late. Balisy and Watson are tied for the camp lead with two goals.

Camp continues today with a pair of scrimmage games. Balisy and Team White face Preds 2011 second round pick Miikka Salomaki and Team Finland at 3:30 pm CT. At Noon today Watson and Team Blue faceoff against Team Sweden.

Team USA is likely to make a round of cuts after today's games to get ready for more games against Team Finland and Team Sweden later in the week. The Evaluation Camp is key audition for this winter's World Junior Championships team. Team USA has medaled at the last two World Junior Championships, the first time in program history that the US has medaled in back-to-back years, winning the Gold Medal in 2010 and the Bronze Medal in 2011.
