by Staff Writer / Nashville Predators
Predators goaltender Pekka Rinne posted a 30-save shutout in his World Championships debut to lead Team Finland to a 5-0 win over Norway on Day 2 of the 2009 World Championships Tournament. Rinne, who recorded a Predators team-record seven shutouts during the NHL season, made six saves in the first period, 13 in the second, and 11 in the third.

Finland scored three times in the final 6:16 of the first period to break open a scoreless tie and then added single goals in the second and third frames to complete the win. Ville Koistinen notched an assist on Finland's second goal, a power-play marker 16:19 into the game.

In other Day 2 action, Team USA, with Ryan Suter and Colin Wilson, picked up a 4-2 win over Latvia. Jack Johnson scored a pair of goals to spark the US offense, including the game-winning tally with 4:24 left in the second period. Patrick O'Sullivan and Drew Stafford scored the other US goals. Preds defenseman Ryan Suter was held off the scoresheet, but did register a +2 plus/minus rating. Preds prospect Colin Wilson made his World Championships debut with 13:20 of ice time.

Both Team USA and Team Finland return to action on Monday with the US facing Austria and Finland matching up against Denmark.
