Relationship will feature strategic business partnership and medical services
(September 17, 2008) – The Nashville Predators and Vanderbilt University Medical Center announced today a multi-year partnership that will include both a strategic business partnership, encompassing both marketing and charitable programs, and Vanderbilt assuming the role of official health care provider of Predators and Sommet Center.

Today's deal with Vanderbilt Medical Centers is the latest in a string of important off-ice sponsorship announcements by the Preds.
In mid-August the organization announced a new partnership with Smurfit-Stone to help the Preds and Sommet Center "Go Green." That was followed by renewed deals with Pepsi and MAPCO, a renewed radio broadcast deal with WGFX 104.5 The Zone, the relaunch of the Delta Dental "Protect Your Fangs" campaign, and the launch of the team's new "It Stays With You" marketing campaign that was created in partnership with marketing firm Gish, Sherwood & Friends.
The club is close to finalizing deals with several other new business partners, with announcements expected in the coming weeks.
“As the preeminent medical facility in the Southeastern United States and the largest private employer in the Nashville area, Vanderbilt University Medical Center is a fantastic partner for the Predators in terms of both services and marketing,” said Chris Parker, Predators senior vice president, corporate development. “They have phenomenal brand equity and recognition, and we are excited to have them aboard.”
The strategic business partnership will feature multi-level marketing and charitable/player involvement. In addition to traditional sponsorship and branding opportunities, the marketing plan has ticket-sales initiatives that will enable Vanderbilt employees, medical staff and students to be exposed to Predators hockey. Charitable and player involvement will have special emphasis on outreach at Monroe Carell Jr. Children’s Hospital.
“The Predators players and the entire organization have been wonderful to us over the years and especially to the kids at the Children’s Hospital,” Joel Lee, associate vice chancellor of VUMC Communications said. “It is great to expand our involvement with our hometown NHL team and we look forward to a close and valuable relationship in the years ahead.”
As part of the relationship, Vanderbilt will also assume a role as the official health care provider of the Nashville Predators and the Sommet Center. The club will utilize the services of a VUMC medical staff led by Head Team Physician and Orthopaedic Surgeon Dr. Jed Kuhn, who has previously worked for the USA Hockey National Team Development Program and the U.S. Olympic Committee.
“We are excited about adding Dr. Kuhn’s knowledge and hockey background to our medical staff,” Predators President of Hockey Operations David Poile said. “He comes to us highly regarded by USA Hockey, and we have the utmost confidence in him and his staff to give our players exceptional care this season and beyond.”
“Though I have stayed in touch with the sport through consulting work with the NHL Players’ Association, I have a true passion for hockey and am thrilled about more day-to-day interaction with the sport by working with the Predators,” Kuhn said.
Kuhn will be joined by team physicians James Carey, M.D., Charlie Cox, M.D., and Paul Rummo, D.O.
Filling out the medical staff are team plastic surgeons Wesley Thayer, M.D., and Kevin Hagan, M.D., team ophthalmologist Daniel Weikert, M.D., and team dentist Cristin Wallace, D.D.S.
VUMC personnel will also staff First Aid Stations throughout the Sommet Center at all Predators games and other arena events.
