Poile on draft day trade with Florida

by Staff Writer / Nashville Predators

Hours before Round 1 of the 2007 NHL Entry Draft began at Nationwide Arena in Columbus, Ohio, Predators general manager David Poile acquired a 2008 first-round pick and two second-round picks from the Florida Panthers in exchange for goaltender Tomas Vokoun. Poile recorded an audio statement about the trade that allows the Predators to make at least one other second-round selection in the 2007 draft and adds an additional first-round selection for a highly touted 2008 draft. Goaltender Chris Mason, who played 40 games this season including 21 consecutive starts when Vokoun was sidelined with a hand injury, will step into the No. 1 role for Nashville. Goaltending prospect Pekka Rinne will likely be Mason's back-up for the 2007-08 season. Click the link below to hear Poile's statement.
