Josi/Smith Go Head-to-Head at World Championships

Craig Smith and Team USA knocked off Roman Josi and Team Switzerland, 5-2, in the final game of Helsinki Group Play at the 2012 World Championships. With the win, the US claimed the No. 2 seed in the Group and will face Finland in the Quarterfinals on Thursday.

Switzerland closed the tournament with a 2-5-0 record for fifth place in Group Play. Josi picked up an assist in the game, his first point of the tournament, averaging 19:33 of ice time in his three games during the tournament.

Smith was held off the scoresheet, but still fired a game-high four shots on goal, to close out Group Play with one assist in three games.

In other action today at the Worlds, Martin Erat continued his strong play with a goal in Czech Republic's 8-1 win over Germany. Erat recorded two goals and one assist in three games during Group Play, helping the Czechs to a third place showing in the Stockholm Group. Czech Republic will face No. 2 seed Sweden in Thursday's Quarterfinals. The Swedes closed out Group Play with a 4-0 win over Latvia. Patric Hornqvist had two shots on goal in 18:41 of ice time, just his second game of the tournament after joining the team over the weekend.

Sergei Kostitsyn netted the lone goal for Belarus --- assisted by brother Andrei --- in a 5-1 loss to Canada. Belarus closed the tournament with a 1-6-0 record for sixth place in the Helskinki Group. Sergei finished the tournament with one goal and one assist in three games, while Andrei picked up a pair of assists in the three games.
