by Jay Levin / Nashville Predators
Martin Erat netted the game-winning goal as well as an assist, while all four Preds prospects picked up wins as the tournament moved into the Qualifying Round.

Erat opened the scoring with a shorthanded goal at the 19:06 mark of the first period of Czech Republic's 5-0 win over Switzerland. Marek Zidlicky chipped in with an assist on Czech's second goal, a power-play score midway through the second period. Erat added a power-play assist 1:04 later to help Czech Republic to a 3-0 lead. With the win, Czech Republic moved to first place in Group E with seven points (four points -- one win and one overtime loss -- carried over from the Preliminary Round).

Dan Hamhuis was scoreless with one shot on goal as Canada edged Norway 2-1. Norway's Pal Grotnes stopped 50-of-52 shots in net, surrendering just two power-play goals. Mike Green opened the scoring 9:32 into the game. Norway tied the score on Mads Hansen's shorthanded goal in the middle of the second period. Rick Nash saved the day for Canada by scoring with 3:58 left in regulation, the second consecutive late third period one-goal win for the Canadians. With the win, Canada remained in first place in Group F with nine points.

Patric Hornqvist's scoring streak ended at three games, but Sweden rolled to a 8-1 win over Denmark. Kenny Jonsson scored 8:47 into the game. Sweden added one more goal in the first period, two in the second, and four in the first 10:14 of the third period to race out to a 8-0 lead. Tony Martensson led the way with two goals and two assists, helped by Mattias Weinhandl with one goal and three assists. With the win, Sweden moved to six points in Group E.

Team USA scored three times in the first 2:52 of the game before Germany chipped away to tie the game 4-4 early in the third period. Zach Parise, who scored the game's opening goal, netted the game-winner with 8:56 remaining in regulation and then added an assist on Dustin Brown's empty net goal for a 6-4 US win.
