After an early morning track session, the Preds prospects took to the ice for the first time during Development Camp on Wednesday morning.
Predators Director of Player Development Martin Gelinas, Assistant Coach Peter Horachek, and Milwaukee Admirals Coaches Lane Lambert and Brad Lauer ran the on-ice drills, while Goaltending Coach Mitch Korn rotated through the goaltenders.
Defenseman Jonathon Blum
and forward Nick Spaling
, a pair of 2007 Preds draftees, stood out during the on-ice sessions, as did goaltender Chet Pickard
. Blum became even more noticeable as the session moved along, especially during the contact drills where he showed a physical edge in keeping the forwards away from the front of the goal crease. All four of the goaltenders looked solid in net, but Pickard looked confident and comfortable, challenging shooters aggressively.
In a slight surprise development, 2009 second round pick Zach Budish
participated in all of the skating drills. Budish, recovering from knee surgery during the fall of 2008, was not expected to do any skating during this week's camp.Colin Wilson
and Jani Lajunen
were the only players kept off the ice, but Wilson is expected to participate in Thursday's on-ice session.
