During a ceremony held prior to the Nashville Predators' A
pril 3 home game against the Columbus Blue Jackets, the Predators organization announced that Zachary Holcomb and John Cimba had been named Youth Hockey Player of the Month and Youth Hockey Volunteer of the Month, respectively, for April. Predators Amateur & Youth Hockey Coordinator Andee Boiman was on hand to present Holcomb and Cimba with plaques recognizing their efforts. The two were nominated and selected as part of a program created by the Predators that will regularly recognize a player and a volunteer in the Nashville area who demonstrate character skills that make youth hockey a better experience for all involved.
Holcomb, April Player of the Month, plays defense for the Mite-Avalanche team, which is part of the Nashville Youth Hockey League that plays at Centennial Sportsplex in Nashville, Tenn. Holcomb has always been interested in ice hockey and has been playing since he was three years old. At only age 8, Holcomb conveys positive sportsmanship and respect to his teammates and people in general.
Holcomb is a valued member of the NYHL Mite-Avalanche ice hockey team. According to his coach, Mike Olin, he is the best listener and most positive player on the team. Holcomb is a team player and is respected by his teammates. He gives his best effort when playing and volunteers to play any position when needed. He always tries his hardest and has never failed to inspire his teammates. "Holcomb is just an exceptional player and kid," Coach Olin said.
Holcomb was nominated by NYHL Mite-Avalanche head coach Mike Olin. Holcomb's hard work, determination, and love for ice hockey have allowed him to be a great example to all and for this the Nashville Predators have recognized him the April Youth Hockey Player of the Month.
The Nashville Predators are also proud to have named John Cimba as the April Youth Hockey Volunteer of the Month. Cimba has been the head coach for TPH Thunder AAA '94s team for two years and is also the assistant coach for the Squirt AA team, part of the TPH Thunder Hockey program that plays at Southern Ice Arena in Franklin, Tenn. Cimba and his family have been involved with hockey for over six years now, including two sons who play for TPH Thunder and his wife who volunteers in the program. Cimba helped establish the travel program at Southern Ice Arena and has coached from house level to AAA level travel teams. Additionally, he has helped cultivate grassroots hockey programs in Franklin and volunteers with the Southern Amateur Hockey Association and as an instructor during player development, learn to play hockey programs. He also sits on the board at Southern Ice Arena.
Cimba is being recognized for his love of the sport and genuine interest in helping to develop youth hockey players in the Southeast through his coaching and volunteering efforts. Friend and TPH Thunder staff member Ryan McCormack nominated Cimba for his great attitude and efforts and because of this, the Nashville Predators have recognized him as the April Youth Hockey Volunteer of the Month.
