All five of Nashville's Olympians began the quarterfinals on Wednesday with a win in Men's ice hockey at the 2006 Winter Olympic Games in Turino, Italy.
Nashville defenseman Kimmo Timonen and Finland stayed perfect (6-0) in the tournament with a 4-3 victory over the United States on Wednesday. The Czech Republic, featuring Predators Martin Erat, Tomas Vokoun and Marek Zidlicky, edged out Slovakia 3-1. Vokoun did not play in the game. Nashville defenseman Danny Markov and Russia shut out Canada 2-0.
In other action on Wednesday, Sweden eliminated Switzerland with a 6-2 victory.
The stage has now been set for the semifinals on Friday. The Czech Republic will take on Sweden at 9:30 a.m. CT (MSNBC) and Finland will face Russia at 2:00 p.m. CT (USA Network).
