O'Gara, 24, had a homecoming of sorts when the Boston Bruins traded him to the New York Rangers on Feb. 20, 2018. The defenseman, a native of Massapequa, New York, about 30 miles from Madison Square Garden, left Long Island during high school to play at Milton Academy, a prep school in Boston.
Selected by the Bruins in the fifth round (No. 151) in the 2011 NHL Draft, O'Gara played four seasons at Yale University, where he helped the Bulldogs win their first NCAA championship as a freshman in 2013. He signed a two-year, entry-level contract with the Bruins on March 29, 2016.
