The son of Hockey Hall of Famer Peter Stastny launched a new phase in his NHL career when he signed a contract with the Vegas Golden Knights on July 1, 2018. Ironically, he signed with the team that had ended his season two months earlier; Stastny had 15 points (six goals, nine assists) for the Winnipeg Jets in the Stanley Cup Playoffs before they were eliminated by Vegas in the Western Conference Final. He signed a one-year, $1.5 million contract with the Carolina Hurricanes on Aug. 23, 2022, after playing for the Winnipeg Jets, Golden Knights, St. Louis Blues and Colorado Avalanche.
Stastny quickly made a name for himself in the NHL in 2006-07 with a 20-game point streak for the Colorado Avalanche, a League record for a rookie. At 21, Stastny was the third-youngest player in NHL history with a streak that long, trailing only Wayne Gretzky and Mario Lemieux.

He also set a rookie record with a 15-game road point streak. Stastny finished second in voting for the Calder Trophy, awarded to the League's top rookie; his 78 points ranked second among first-year players and earned him a spot on the NHL All-Rookie Team.
Stastny kept up his production in 2007-08, leading the Avalanche with 71 points, including first NHL hat trick Oct. 3, 2007, against the Dallas Stars. He had points in his first seven games in 2008-09 and scored 20 points in March 2010, finishing the season with a team-leading 79.
In 2011-12 he was second on Colorado in points (53), goals (21) and assists (32) and had team highs in power-play goals (seven) and power-play points (19). He led the United States with 15 points and helped the U.S. win a bronze medal at the 2013 World Championship. In 2014 he led Colorado with five goals and 10 points in the Stanley Cup Playoffs (seven games).
Stastny followed in the footsteps of his father when he signed as a free agent with the Blues on July 1, 2014. Peter played for the Blues from 1993-95. Paul's uncles Anton and Marian and brother Yan also played in the NHL. Paul Stastny made his Blues debut Oct. 9, 2014, scoring a goal against the New York Rangers, and finished second in the 2016 playoffs with 247 face-off wins. He spent nearly four seasons with the Blues before being traded to the Jets on Feb. 26, 2018.
Stastny was selected by the Avalanche in the second round (No. 44) of the 2005 NHL Draft after helping the University of Denver win the NCAA title in 2004-05. He was named Western Collegiate Hockey Association Rookie of the Year and selected to the WCHA All-Rookie Team and the Frozen Four All-Tournament Team.
