No one has played more games in an Ottawa Senators sweater than Phillips, a stay-at-home defenseman who dressed for 1,179 games from 1997-98 through 2014-15.
The Senators selected Phillips with the No. 1 pick in the 1996 NHL Draft after his first season with Prince Albert of the Western Hockey League. He returned to Prince Albert for the 1996-97 season, with a midseason break to help Canada repeat as champion at the IIHF World Junior Championship, before being traded to Lethbridge at midseason. Phillips was named the best defenseman in the WHL and helped his new team finish second at the Memorial Cup.
