Nine Penguins Players Make Fundraising Appearance January 15

PITTSBURGH: The YMCA, the Pittsburgh Penguins, Dick’s Sporting Goods, and Trib Total Media are pleased to announce the second year for the YMCA Junior Penguins hockey program. Developed exclusively for YMCA members, the beginning and intermediate youth street hockey program was created last year as a way to introduce the great sport of hockey to new participants, teach basic fundamental skills, and promote the value of exercise.

Nine members of the Penguins will take part in a fundraising autograph session at Dick’s Sporting Goods, The Mall at Robinson on Monday, January 15. Three one-hour autograph sessions will be held for donations; proceeds benefit the YMCA Junior Penguins. Festivities run from 6:00pm – 9:00pm, visit for complete details.

The YMCA Junior Penguins enjoyed over 800 participants in its inaugural season, making it among the strongest programs offered in YMCA centers in our area. This year, the program welcomes six new YMCAs: Greensburg, Ligonier Valley, New Castle Community, Oil City Area, Armstrong County, and Centre Ave.

The Penguins, Dick’s Sporting Goods, and Trib Total Media provide all participating YMCA branches with structured support, program equipment, and staff training on hockey skills. Sufficient equipment is made available for all teams. Each child also receives a program t-shirt, and this season, their very own street hockey stick.

Registration is now underway and programs begin later this month. For information on participating branches or to enroll your child in the YMCA Junior Penguins program; contact Bruce Berringer of the YMCA of Greater Pittsburgh at
