WJC: Pens Prospect Harrington Has Four-Point Night for Canada

by Michelle Crechiolo / Pittsburgh Penguins
Pittsburgh Penguins 2011 draft pick Scott Harrington scored a goal and added three assists for Team Canada as they steamrolled Denmark, 10-2, at Rexall Place in Edmonton in opening round action of the 2012 World Junior Championship.

Harrington's four points in the game actually tied a team record for most points by a defenseman in a World Junior Championship contest.
"That's pretty funny because that's not the type of defenseman that I am," Harrington told "But I guess I'm in good company now so I'll take it, but I'm looking forward to the next game. We had all four lines rolling and the defense going so that's the type of game you want leading up to an important game [against the U.S.]."

Harrington, 18, was Pittsburgh’s second-round selection (54th overall) in the 2011 NHL Draft. The stay-at-home blueliner has been a key contributor for London, which owns the best record in the Ontario Hockey League (OHL).

The win improved Canada's record to a perfect 3-0 and puts them in command of Group B with nine points. The top team in each group advances directly to the semi-finals while the second and third place teams must win a quarter-finals game to get as far.

The Canadians will close out the preliminary round with a New Year's Eve showdown against the United States on Saturday at 8 p.m., which will be broadcast live on the NHL Network.

U.S. TO FACE CZECH REPUBLIC FRIDAY: The U.S. will face the Czech Republic Friday at 3:30 p.m., which will also be broadcast live on the NHL Network.

In addition to featuring Pittsburgh Penguins 2011 draft pick Josh Archibald, Team USA has a heavy Pittsburgh influence as four players from the Pittsburgh Hornets program -- J.T. Miller, Stephen Johns, Brandon Saad and John Gibson -- all are part of the roster. Prospect Dominik Uher will suit up for the Czech Republic.
