Q & A with Adam Clendening

by Joseph Guzy / Pittsburgh Penguins
Adam Clendening has been in the lineup for three straight games and is showing flashes of his offensive potential. The blueliner has adjusted quickly and even assisted on Evgeni Malkin’s game-winning goal against the Minnesota Wild on Nov. 17. But what makes the 23-year-old Niagara Falls, New York native tick? More importantly, does he prefer One Direction or Justin Bieber?

First hockey memory?
Probably my first full lap I did when I was trying to learn to skate. I got chicken fingers after from my dad. That was our promise. If I made it one time around without falling I got chicken fingers.

Most embarrassing hockey memory?
I played right wing growing up. I had a breakaway and I pushed the puck too far in front of me. I could have caught up to it but the goalie said that he’d get it. So I just stopped and let the goalie come out and cover the puck. I was 5 years old at the time. I didn’t know. I was obviously clueless.

Favorite player growing up?
Nicklas Lidstrom.

Favorite music?
Country. Right now I’d have to go with Thomas Rhett.

Favorite food?
I grew up Italian so anything Italian. Chicken Parmesan is probably my guilty pleasure.

Hidden talents?
I consider myself an above average golfer. That’s about it.

Can you drive a stick shift?
Not fast but I’m smart enough to get it moving.

Have you ever gotten a parking ticket?
Oh yeah.

One Direction or Justin Bieber?
Biebs. Biebs all the way.

Favorite thing you’ve done in Pittsburgh so far?
Other than playing for the Pens? I went to one of the last few Pirates games heading into playoff baseball. That was pretty fun down at PNC Park. There’s a lot of good stuff to do around here.

Best part about being a Pittsburgh Penguin?
Just the lifestyle. We’re in a great city and the fans love us. Just having people there to support you and the community loves us so that’s always nice.
