The Pittsburgh area will be well represented in the goaltender department when the US Women’s National Festival gets underway August 10th in Blaine Minnesota. North Allegheny product Lindsay Holdcroft and Robert Morris alumni Brianne McLaughlin will both be in attendance.
The festival involves 79 players, one Under-18 team and three 18 & over teams that will train from August 10th to August 20th. Holdcroft and McLaughlin are paired together on the White team for the festival.
This event will serve as the selection camp for the 2011 U.S. Women's Team that will compete in the International Ice Hockey Federation Eight Nations Tournament in Vierumäki, Finland, August 24-31.
Holdcroft, who is a sophomore at Dartmouth University, had a wonderful freshman year as she appeared in 27 games. She finished the year with a 902 save percentage, a 2.34 goals against average and an 18-9-0 record.
McLaughlin, a 2010 Olympian, enjoyed a fantastic career at Robert Morris University, setting an NCAA record with 3,809 career saves in 120 games. McLaughlin was a four-time All-College Hockey America award winner and also earned national defensive player of the week honors on three occasions in her career.
