10:11 PM: Dan Boyle gets one shot to keep the Sharks in the game, but Fleury stops him and the Penguins win!

10:10 PM: Crosby goes five-hole on Boucher to score the first point in the shootout. Penguins 2, Sharks 1.

10:10 PM: Joe Pavelski's shot is stopped by Fleury.

10:09 PM: Evgeni Malkin is stopped by Boucher.

10:09 PM: The Sharks send Milan Michalek first, but Fleury makes the save.

10:08 PM: The first shooter for the Penguins is Petr Sykora. His attempt is blocked by Boucher.

10:02 PM: Although the Pens had some spectacular scoring chances in the overtime session, including two minutes on the power play thanks to Rob Blake who went to the box for holding Malkin, they are unable to capitalize. The game will now go into a shootout. Shots in the overtime period: Penguins 1, Sharks 2.

9:56 PM: The game ends with the teams tied, 1-1. The game will go into a five minute overtime period.

9:53 PM: Fleury makes a pad save on a short-handed break away shot from Mike Grier. 

9:41 PM: The Sharks tie the game at 1-1. Ryan Clowe received a pass from behind the Pens net. He took a shot from the high slot which bounced off of Fleury there was a scramble in front of the Pens net but the puck bounced out to Joe Pavelski at the near side of the net and he pounded the puck in for the goal. Penguins 1, Sharks 1.

9:39 PM: The jumbotron plays a highlight video of Max Talbot to commemorate his 25th birthday today.

9:22 PM: The Mellon Arena crowd of 17,034 chants, "Fleury! Fleury!" as the netminder makes a clutch glove save on a shot that Joe Pavelski took from the slot.

9:17 PM: The third period begins. It was just announced that Jordan Staal also had an assist on Thomas's goal. That was Staal's 100th career point.

9:04 PM: The Penguins head to the locker room after two periods of play leading the Sharks, 1-0. Shots are tied at 21-21 after two.

8:57 PM: The Penguins score the oh-so-important first goal of the game. Pittsburgh native Bill Thomas scores his first goal as a Penguin to put the Penguins on the board. Miroslav Satan skated the puck out of the Penguins zone and flicked the puck across to Thomas who picked it up and skated it in. Thomas shot the puck at the net and it banked off of Blake's stick and past Boucher's five-hole for the score. Penguins 1, Sharks 0.

8:46 PM: The Pens try to set something up on the power-play chance, but the Shark's kill off the penalty before the Pens get any good chances.

8:41 PM: Rob Blake goes to the box for hooking eight minutes into the second period. It's the first penalty of the game. The Pens go on the power play.

8:30 PM: The second period begins.

8:15 PM: The first period ends. The Penguins had 11 shots in the first period, the same number of shots they tallied in the entire game the last time they met the Sharks on Oct. 28. The score is, 0-0, after one period.

Other NHL games of interest tonight: Buffalo trials Ottawa, 1-0, in the first, the Capitals and the Rangers are tied, 2-2, in the second and the Islanders lead the Devils, 2-1, in the second.

7:57 PM: After 10 minutes of play Marc-Andre Fleury has stopped 11 shots from San Jose. At the other end of the ice, Brian Boucher has faced five shots from Pittsburgh.

7:30 PM: The Pens prepare to faceoff against the best in the West, the San Jose Sharks. The Sharks lead the Western Conference in points (81) and trail only the Bruins (85).

Scratches for the Penguins tonight are forward Chris Minard and defenseman Philippe Boucher. Scratches for San Jose are forwards Marcel Goc and Jody Shelley.
