Pens vs. Flyers Game 5 Live Game Blog

Penguins representatives will be providing a live-game blog during Penguins' playoff games this season. Check back for updates, injury reports and information throughout the game.

9:35 PM: The clock expires and the Penguins get shutout by the Flyers 3-0. The Pens still lead the series, 3-2.

9:32 PM: The Pens pull Fleury in a final attempt to score with 1:19 left in the third period.

9:20 PM: The Flyers net another goal. Richards took a shot from the near circle and the rebound bounced to Knuble in the slot. Knuble pounded a one-timer in for the point. Flyers 3, Penguins 0.

9:00 PM: The Flyers up their lead to 2-0. Giroux collects a pass in the near circle and he one-times it past Fleury for the point. Flyers 2, Penguins 0.

8:57 PM: The third period begins. The Penguins trail the Flyers, 1-0.

8:39 PM: That concludes the second period.

8:35 PM: Malkin, Crosby and Fedotenko play together on the same line in these last few minutes of the second period.

8:17 PM: The Penguins almost tie the score with a goal from Evgeni Malkin. Gonchar took a slap shot from the point and the rebound caromed off of Malkin's foot into the net, however the play was reviewed and the goal was recalled.

8:12 PM: The Flyers score the first goal of the game. Asham took a slap shot from inside the left point which eluded Fleury. Flyers 1, Penguins 0.

8:11 PM: Satan takes a shot on Biron from the near circle and the force of the shot literally knocks the stick out of the netminers hand but unfortunately the puck was deflected. 

8:01 PM: Second period action begins.

7:43 PM: The first period concludes with the Penguins outshooting the Flyers, 15-5.

7:39 PM: The power play expires before the Pens can convert.

7:35 PM: The Penguins get their first power-play opportunity of the game on an interference penalty assessed to Parent with 5:34 left in the first period.

7:28 PM: After 11 minutes of play the Penguins are outshooting the Flyers, 7-5. For the record, from where I sit in the press box I can only see four orange jerseys in the crowd. That's right Flyers - this is our house.

7:20 PM: Eaton and Gonchar are currently playing together on a defensive pair and Boucher is paired with Orpik. Satan is currently playing on the fourth line with Adams and Talbot while Dupuis is skating up on Malkin's line along with Fedotenko. We'll keep you posted if things change.

7:10 PM: The crowd chants "Lets Go Pens!" in unison as the game gets underway. The building is shaking, I'm sure of it.

7:09 PM: Marc-Andre Fleury gets a standing ovation from the Mellon Arena crowd as he skates to the crease in honor of his 45 saves in the Penguins' 3-1 victory over the Flyers Tuesday.

7:00 PM: It looks like a blizzard hit the Mellon Arena tonight because of the "Whiteout," the Mellon Faithful are decked out in white t-shirts compliments of StarKist. The Penguins are ready to take on the Philadelphia Flyers in Game 5 of the best-of-seven series. The Penguins are 12-4 at home in Game 5 playoff games.

Bylsma made a few changes to the lineup today and Miroslav Satan and Philipe Boucher will be making their 2009 playoff debut's tonight. Scratches for the Penguins are forwards Petr Sykora and Eric Godard and defenseman Kris Letang.

Scratches for the Flyers are forward Riley Cote and defenseman Luca Sbisa (same as last game).
