0:00: The Devils add an empty-net goal from Niedermayer and New Jersey pulls even with Pittsburgh in the Atlantic Division race. The Penguins will have to regroup quickly with a battle in Boston coming Thursday night.

2:33: Staal had a great chance all alone in front of the net but Brodeur denied his shot.

6:29: An ugly moment occurred after Pelley boarded Goligoski from behind. Goligoski went face first into the boards awkwardly and stayed on the ice for while. He managed to get to his feet and skated to the bench. Pittsburgh will work on a five-minute power play as a result.

8:04: The Penguins had a couple good chances after killing a penalty to Sidney Crosby. Pittsburgh is looking really strong right now, but still trail by two goals. They'll need some late game magic/heroics if they want to keep some space between them and New Jersey in the Atlantic Division.

14:37: The Penguins cut into New Jersey's lead on a goal by Fedotenko. Goligoski made a move at the midpoint and found Fedotenko in the far circle. Fedotenko threw a shot through Brodeur's legs with Kunitz and Rupp providing a screen. Devils 4, Penguins 2.

16:15: Brodeur makes a sprawling save to deny Eaton on a wraparound chance for Pittsburgh.

20:00: Puck drop.

- Five Penguins tied for the team lead with two shots
- Adams has a team-high three hits
- Crosby has logged 16:12 minutes of ice, most on the team

0:00: The secodn period draws to a close with the Penguins staring at a 4-1 deficit. It will take some inspired play if the Penguins want to get back into this game, but anything is possible. Pittsburgh still leads in shots, 18-15.

3:42: Dupuis had a great chance after Letang's missed shot came off the backboards and to Dupuis in the slot. However, Dupuis wasn't able to bury the shot.

9:02: Johnson was tested early with a glove save. Then Johnson had to scramble to keep a loose puck in the paint out of his goal.

9:43: New Jersey adds to its lead. The Devils picked up the puck right at their blue line and had a four-on-two towards the Penguins zone. Zajac put a shot on net and Parise was there to bang home the rebound. Pittsburgh pulled Fleury and Brent Johnson went into the game. Devils 4, Penguins 1.

10:20: Brodeur smothers a shot for a whistle to eliminate the Penguins' man-advantage.

12:20: Brian Roloston goes to the box for tripping. This is a great chance for the Penguins to get back into this game.

16:51: The Devils got another turnover and another shorthanded breakaway, this time burying the shot. Elias picked off a pass his own blue line. He made some moves on net and roofed a shot into the twine. Devils 3, Penguins 1.

17:14: Fleury makes a beautiful glove save, stoping Zajac on a breakaway after a Penguins' turnover. Fleury snatched the puck as his body flipped around dramatically.

18:31: The Penguins will go on the power play with Clarkson going to the box.

20:00: Puck drop.


The Penguins would like to with all our fans, and fans around the NHL a Happy St. Patrick's Day. The Devils were certaintly into the festivities.

- Kunitz is one goal away from 100 for his career
- Eaton has logged a team-high 7:31 minutes
- Crosby went 3-1 in the faceoff circle

0:00: The first period comes to an end with Pittsburgh trailing 2-1, but outshooting New Jersey 11-8.

:58: Brodeur makes a great sliding save on a one-timer from Ruslan Fedotenko.

1:42: The Devils take a late lead, catching the Penguins in the middle of a line change. Blueliner Paul Martin picked up an errant pass in the neutral zone, streaked down the near side uncontested and threw a shot far side by Fleury. Devils 2, Penguins 1.

2:45: The Devils are wearing their throwback jerseys with the green and red colors. Even Brodeur is wearing a replica of the helmet he wore when he broke into the league.

3:11: The pace of this game has really picked up following Zubrus' goal. We just had our first stop in play in nearly six minutes, a rarity for Devils hockey.

9:09: The Penguins turned the puck over at their own blue line. The Devils Zubrus stole the puck and had a breakaway. He deked Fleury and slid the puck over the goal line. Penguins 1, Devils 1.

12:30: Fedotenko set up a great chance for Matt Cooke, who lit into a slap shot from the near point. Brodeur kicked out the rebound but Kennedy just couldn't reach it for a rebound opportunity.

15:59: The Penguins draw first blood! Bill Guerin took a bad angled shot from near the right corner. Martin Brodeur kicked out the rebound into the slot to Chris Kunitz. Kunitz snapped a shot stick side past Brodeur for the early lead. Penguins 1, Devils 0.

18:31: Marc-Andre Fleury gets into the action with a glove save.

19:15: The Penguins put on some early pressure as Martin Brodeur is forced to make a save on Chris Kunitz.

20:00: Puck drop.


7:03 PM: The Penguins have scratched forwards Evgeni Malkin and Eric Godard, along with defenseman Jay McKee. Malkin was injured when he was hit with a shot on Sunday. He is listed as day-to-day but will miss the game.

Devils defenseman Paul Martin returns to the lineup tonight after missing 20-something games. New Jersey scratched Cory Murphy, Pierre-Luc Letourneau-Leblond, Andrew Peters and Anssi Salmela.

7:00 PM: The Penguins and Devils meet for the final time in the regular season. New Jersey has the advantage so far with a perfect 5-0 mark while outscoring Pittsburgh 17-3. However, despite the lopsided results the Penguins hold a two-point lead in the Atlantic Division race. A win for Jersey will make the race dead even, while the Penguins can put some distance between them and the Devils for the final 12-game stretch run.
