_______________________________________________________________________________2:14 PM:Dan BylsmaOn if he'll play Talbot vs. Buffalo
I always consider changes to the lineup after every game. Given the team we're playing and what we need, we're certainly thinking about it.On if the team needs to improve on
With (the media's) help we've done that with the power play. (laughs) We're always looking to improve. We're in the process of that. I think we are better than in October in terms of three or four different areas of our game. We need to keep focus on those certain areas. Sometimes it's an adjustment to what we're doing. Sometimes it's improving on it. I think puck retrieval and coming out of D zone coverage is a work in progress. When we're good at it and execute well, it makes it easier for us to get to our game. I think a lot of our success is getting better in those areas. On Jay McKee
It does usually take a little bit of time for newer players to come in and (adjust). I think there is a better understanding of what it looks like when we're playing the right way, when we're executing the right way. Sometimes that's a breaking of habits that aren't necessarily bad habits but habits that you have from playing under a different system, a different coach. There is always a need for reminders and keeping focus on the right habits to make sure we play the game we want to play. Jay has certainly improved upon what we want a lot from the beginning of the year. On if the coaching staff is scouting Buffalo's game tonight vs. Toronto
Sometimes you get a better feel for how a team plays when they play well. From going to a game, their identity, i think you get a better feel when you watch it live. Mike Yeo and Tony will go to the game tonight. Gilles Meloche and I are going to go to Syracuse to see the Baby Pens play tonight. You watch video but sometimes when you go to a game you get a sense of how a team plays when they're playing well, how they get to their game a bit better when there's emotion involved, sound involved, and not just seeing a screen. It's an opportunity to see them and scout them live instead of having to work late into the night for those guys. They certainly going to take that opportunity. On scouting WBS
I don't get to see them much. Gilles actually sees them a lot more than I do. He sees video of their team. I just get reports about how players are playing and the games. I enjoy the opportunity to see them live, see them play. I also think from an organizational standpoing, it's not a bad thing for players there to know that scouts are in the stands, GMs are in the stands and when the opportunity arises coaches from Pittsburgh will be in the stands. I think it aids what we're trying to accomplish. On if he prepares for Ryan Miller in net
We do prepare for Ryan Miller. We also prepare for the other guy as well. He's a big part of their team, one of their best players. We're going to prepare for seeing him.
The following players took part in Pittsburgh's optional Friday afternoon practice. Forwards Max Talbot, Tyler Kennedy
, Craig Adams
, Eric Godard and Mike Rupp, defensemen Brooks Orpik
, Jay McKee, Alex Goligoski and Martin Skoula and goaltender Brent Johnson
The Penguins are holding an optional practice at the Pepsi Center in Buffalo. The Sabres host the Toronto Maple Leafs in Buffalo tonight so Pittsburgh couldn't practice at HSBC Arena. Therefore, the team is skating at the Pepsi Center at noon.
