1:42 PM: Next up, the protective netting and players' benches.

11:17: With the ice melted, the working crew removed the panes of glass surrounding the rink.

The ice generator was spewing fumes as the coolant was turned off and the ice was converted to gas.

10:21 AM: It didn't take long for the hard working arena crew at Mellon Arena to displace the ice surface. Nine days after the final NHL game was played at the historic rink, the ice is no more. It's time to turn the page on to the CONSOL Energy Center now.

9:20 AM: Workers started to remove the ice from Mellon Arena early this morning. In just a few short months, ice will be made in the new CONSOL Energy Center for the start of the 2010-11 season.
