The Pittsburgh Penguins have recalled defenseman Steve Oleksy from Wilkes-Barre/Scranton of the American Hockey League, it was announced today by executive vice president and general manager Jim Rutherford.
Oleksy, 30, suited up for Wilkes-Barre/Scranton on Friday night, helping the club earn a crucial 3-2 shootout victory in Portland that kept the WBS Penguins percentage points ahead of the Hershey Bears for first place in the Atlantic Division.
The 6-foot, 190-pound Oleksy has one goal, 10 assists, 11 points, 78 penalty minutes and a plus-13 in 45 games. He traveled with the NHL Penguins to Boston on Wednesday, but did not play before being returned back to WBS.
Pittsburgh hosts the Winnipeg Jets on Saturday at 3 p.m. at CONSOL Energy Center. The game will be televised on ROOT SPORTS and can also be heard on the team’s official radio flagship, 105.9 The X.
