Penguins Recall Jayson Megna, Chris Conner and Simon Despres

The Pittsburgh Penguins have recalled forwards Jayson Megna and Chris Conner and defenseman Simon Despres from Wilkes-Barre/Scranton of the American Hockey League (AHL), it was announced today by executive vice president and general manager Ray Shero.

Megna, 23, has played in six NHL games this season, tallying three points (2G-1A). He scored his first NHL goal on Oct. 28 against Justin Peters and the Carolina Hurricanes.

The 6-foot-1, 195-pound Megna has tallied 10 points (7G-3A) in 11 AHL games with WBS this year. Megna, who has notched at least one point in nine of 11 AHL appearances, was riding a five-game point streak (4G-1A) at the time of his recall.

Conner, 29, appeared in two games with Pittsburgh earlier this season. He has collected 11 points (6G-5A) in 15 AHL games.

A native of Westland, Michigan, Conner has 19 points (9G-10A) in 70 career games with Pittsburgh. In total, Conner has 45 points (18G-27A) in 159 career NHL contests with Dallas, Detroit, Phoenix and Pittsburgh.

Despres, 22, leads WBS defensemen with three goals and ranks second in both assists (8) and points (11) in 17 regular-season games this year. His plus-13 total is tied with teammate Brian Gibbons for the top mark in the AHL.

The 6-foot-4, 214-pound Despres has eight points (3G-5A) over his past nine games with WBS.

Last year, Despres posted NHL career-high totals with 33 games played, two goals, five assists and seven points with Pittsburgh. He has 11 points (3G-8A) and a plus-14 in 51 career NHL regular-season contests. Despres has also played in six NHL postseason contests.

Forward Tanner Glass and defenseman Paul Martin have been placed on injured reserve.
