by Sam Kasan / Pittsburgh Penguins

0:18: Staal will not be denied this time!!! He rips a shot past Quick to win the game for the Pens in overtime by a score of 2-1!

0:34: Staal with a great chance in front, but Quick with another quality save.

0:53: Pens ice the puck as Fleury has been strong in this overtime so far. He's been challenged early and often, and he's been tremendous.

2:32: Handzus with a great chance in the slot and Fleury makes the save.

5:00: Puck drops. Overtime on.

OVERTIME

0:00: Staal nearly converts a wraparound as time expired. We're going to overtime at CONSOL Energy Center!

2:40: The period's winding down and neither team has been able to break the 1-1 deadlock.

6:14: Fleury just made a save with his head. Talk about a heads-up play! (Lame I know, but irresistable).

8:15: Dupuis uses his speed to get a 2-on-1 break. Dupuis opts to shoot, but his attempt is sticked aside by Quick.

9:25: Good save by Fleury on Doughty's backhander from the slot.

13:03: Big Mac Attack time! Some guy was just chanting "Big Mac! Big Mac!" Anyone remember when they used to give away anti-freeze?

13:35: Talbot with a good re-direction from the slot that Quick gobbles up.

Guess who's in town and checking out the Pens' game? Former Steelers head coach Bill Cowher 1992-2006). Coach Cowher led the Steelers to a championship in Super Bowl XL.

18:03: Orpik gets two minutes for holding.

19:14: Nick Johnson crashes the net as Staal swoops in for a scoring chance. Quick keeps the pads down for the save.

20:00: Puck drops. Game on.

0:45: The penalty is over and both teams are back to full strength.

Check out the Trib Total Media Junior Report

6:48: Great stuff from Ryan Craig. Simmonds and Letang were jawing and getting physical. Craig came to his teammate's aid and dropped the gloves with Simmonds. They both get 5 for fighting.

7:21: Dustin Jeffrey has a lower-body injury and will not return.

10:01: Kennedy gets a strong turnaround shot that is stopped by Quick.

12:22: Engelland and Westgarth dropped the glvoes for a pretty solid effort on both sides. Each man landed some quality blows.

13:49: Jeffrey almost had a great chance in the slot. However the puck rolls off his stick as he and Quick collide.

14:32: Mike Rupp gets three cracks at the puck on the doorstep, but Quick stays strong.

16:28: The Kings kill the penalty and we're back to 5-on-5.

17:33: Former Pen Ponikarovsky had a great shorthanded chance, but Fleury turns it aside with the blocker.

18:30: The Pens will go on the power play as Brown goes to the box.

20:00: Puck drops. Game on.

SECOND PERIOD

2:43: Jarret Stoll gets through a Pens defender and beats Fleury five-hole. Penguins 1, Kings 1

5:20: Another great effort from Michalek. A shot squeezed through Fleury and was loose in the crease. Andrei Loktionov was there to score, but Michalek tied up his stick and shielded him from the puck.

6:30: Great effort from Dustin Jeffrey on the PK. He skated hard for a dumped puck, hounded the puck carrier all the way up the ice, forced a turnover on the backcheck and cleared the zone. Props to Jeffrey on that kill.

8:28: Dupuis will get two minutes for slashing.

The Pens just showed some highlights of former Pen Rob Scuderi on the scoreboard. He talked about coming back to Pittsburgh to play against his former club.

10:44: Jack Johnson with a heavy slapper from the point that Fleury consumes.

13:07: Sterling gets the Pens on the board! He finds a pass in the slot and rips a shot over the shoulder of Quick for the score. Penguins 1, Kings 0

13:28: Michalek makes the save of the game. Fleury was trapped out of his net and Justin Williams had a wide-open net. But Michalek batted his shot away with his stick. Goligoski exits the box and nearly scores at the other end.

6:45 PM: Welcome to CONSOL Energy Center. In a few minutes the puck will drop between the Pens and Kings. There was a lot of big news that came out today regarding Sidney Crosby, Evgeni Malkin, Chris Kunitz, etc. Read it all in the Penguins Report. For more on Crosby, read my article from earlier today.

Speaking of the Penguins Report, I feel like I need to keep the tradition going of opening the blog with a song, and sticking with the Cali theme. A personal favorite of mine since I was a little wittle guy, is "California Dreamin'" by The Mamas & The Papas. Even on a winter's day, all the leaves are brown and the sky is gray.

Runner-Up: "California Love" by 2Pac and Dr. Dre. Click here for the video. In case you were wondering, California still knows how to party in the year 2095. They keep it rockin'. "Can you dig it!?"
