PENGUINS HOST RECORD-BREAKING FOOD DRIVE

by Staff Writer / Pittsburgh Penguins

PITTSBURGH--Penguins' fans set a new record for community service on Saturday, November 18, 2006 when the Penguins held their annual “Score Against Hunger” food drive for the benefit of the Greater Pittsburgh Community Food Bank.

Fans were encouraged to bring non-perishable food items to the game or to make a cash donation to help feed the hungry at local community shelters and food pantries where the need for food has increased tremendously over the past year.

The Penguins surpassed the amount of food and cash donations from all previous food drives. Fans making donations were eligible to win autographed Penguins memorabilia during the game.

Since 1992, Penguins fans have donated over 18,700 pounds of food and $14,655 at the teams’ “Score Against Hunger” drives.
