PENGUINS HEAD TO NEW YORK ON THURSDAY TO BATTLE RANGERS

by Staff Writer / Pittsburgh Penguins

The Pittsburgh Penguins hit the road for the first time this season when they travel to New York to meet the Rangers on Thursday at 7 p.m.

FSN Pittsburgh will televise the contest at 7 p.m., while 105.9 The X will start its radio broadcast with a pregame show at 6:30 p.m. The broadcast may be found live through streaming audio on pittsburghpenguins.com as well. Tune in for Penguins Hotline following every game on 105.9 The X and the Penguins Radio Network. Join in the conversation with host Bob Grove by calling the Penn Telecom toll-free line at 1-866-922-2874.

The Penguins (1-1) are looking for their second win. They opened the season last Thursday with a 4-0 home triumph over Philadelphia, but dropped a 2-0 decision to Detroit on Saturday. That marked the first time in franchise history the Penguins opened the season with a shutout win and followed it up with a shutout loss.

The reverse happened in 2002, when Toronto posted a 6-0 shutout win in Pittsburgh and the Penguins followed with a 6-0 home shutout win over the Rangers.

Thursday’s game also marks the New York return for Penguins’ third-line center Dominic Moore, who spent last season with the Rangers.

The Penguins hope to continue their strong penalty killing. They have yet to allow a power-play goal this season in 12 opportunities. However, they hope to spark their power-play units as the Penguins are 0 for 8 with a man advantage.

Pittsburgh returns home Saturday to take on the defending Stanley Cup champion Hurricanes at 7:30 p.m.
