For the 14th consecutive year, each member club of the NHL and the NHLPA have teamed up in hockey’s most important fight – cancer. The month of October highlights Hockey Fights Cancer, a league-wide initiative to raise awareness and funds for such a devastating disease. Cancer strikes people from every walk of life and our hockey family is no different. NHL players, coaches, staff members and fans are affected by this disease each day.
The Pittsburgh Penguins and UPMC Cancer Centers are proud to celebrate Hockey Fights Cancer during October. During home games this month, we will display in-game Public Service Announcements, special merchandise at the PensGear stores, literature on the HFC initiative and information on how fans may donate to the cause at Guest Service areas. On the ice, the Penguins players will sport special decals on their helmets.
During our October 27 game against the New York Islanders, the Penguins and UPMC Cancer Centers will devote the night to Hockey Fights Cancer. To kick off the Penguins Hockey Fights Cancer festivities, UPMC Cancer Centers will sponsor a commemorative Cancer Awareness Car Magnet and Photo Frame for each fan attending the game. Penguins coaching staff, hockey management, broadcasters and staff will wear a distinctive Hockey Fights Cancer tie or lapel pin and CONSOL Energy Center will include many purple accents as we spotlight the Hockey Fights Cancer program.
Fans can help support the Hockey Fights Cancer initiative by purchasing special Hockey Fights Cancer merchandise. A portion of the proceeds are donated to the Hockey Fights Cancer organization.
