Olympic Diary: Marc-Andre Fleury

by Staff Writer / Pittsburgh Penguins
Penguins goaltender Marc-Andre Fleury checks in with to provide personal insights from his experience in Vancouver. Here is what Marc-Andre had to say on Wednesday prior to Canada's qualification round matchup with Germany.

It is going very well so far. I am having a lot of fun up here. I am really enjoying the opportunity to play on an Olympic team and be surrounded with such great players. It’s been a ton of fun just being around the other guys.

Staying in the Olympic Village has been an awesome experience. I have had the chance to run into some of my current and former teammates there like Brooks Orpik, Ryan Whitney and Ryan Malone. I have also run into Geno (Evgeni Malkin) and Gonch (Sergei Gonchar) from time-to-time as well.

In our apartment building we have all of the Canadian athletes. I got to meet some of the figure skaters, speed skaters and skiers. It’s been great to get a chance to know athletes from a variety of different sports. I actually bought tickets to go watch men’s aerial skiing today because I love watching them do their flips and jumps, but since we have to play the Germans tonight I can’t go. Unfortunately I haven’t had enough time to go watch anything else live because there isn’t enough time with our games and practices.

I haven’t been able to pull out any of my pranks up here yet. I have been trying to feel the guys out a bit so I didn’t get to be mean to anyone yet. We are not done yet so I still have time!

Everybody feels pretty confident going into the game against the Germans. We are definitely hoping to get back on the winning track. It should be a lot of fun as we move into the medal round.
