MONTREAL, Quebec – Penguins center Sidney Crosby
skated with his teammates at practice Monday afternoon at Bell Centre, but there has been no change in his status and he has not returned to full team practice.
Crosby, who is still experiencing symptoms, opted to skate with the team as opposed to skating on his own as the lone non-practicing injured player.
, instead of skating by himself, took the opportunity on the road to practice with the team. There’s no change in his status,” said Bylsma. He added with a smile, “He just would have been lonely all by himself, so he was on the ice with us (Monday).”
“It’s just good to be out there,” Crosby said. “I didn’t want to skate by myself. When I go back to Pittsburgh I’ll be skating by myself again. It’s getting tough. I miss being out with the guys. It’s good to be out there.”
Crosby, who has been out of the lineup since Dec. 5 with concussion-like symptoms and a recently diagnosed soft-tissue neck injury, said he is starting to feel better health-wise.
“I feel like this week’s been good. I feel like I’m getting there,” Crosby said. “I don’t have a timeframe, I wish I did but I don’t. The good news is that there is some progression, with this stuff that’s always what you’re looking for.”
Crosby was diagnosed with a soft-tissue neck injury, the Pens said in a statement Jan. 31. The possibility that the neck injury could be causing his symptoms was welcomed by Crosby.
“It’s just nice to go in and not be guessing. You go in each day to get your neck worked on and do whatever,” he said. “That’s much better than sitting around and waiting for symptoms to go away, or hoping they do. Even if the progress isn’t as quick, it’s still nice.
“I’m really paying attention to working on my neck. Hopefully, that’s something that’s causing it. Like I said before, just being able to focus on that and hopefully see improvement with that.”
Crosby suffered a concussion in January of 2011. He missed 61 games before returning to the lineup Nov. 21 against NY Islanders. He played eight games before being suffering his recent bout of symptoms. Crosby has missed the team’s last 25 games.
Crosby will continue working his way back into the lineup, but he must be symptom free before he can return to game action.
“I’m not symptom free,” he said. “As soon as I am I’ll be out there. That’s where I want to be.”
