McCartney Still Reps Pens Logo on Guitar

by Sam Kasan / Pittsburgh Penguins

It may have been a few “Yesterdays” ago that Sir Paul McCartney added the Penguins logo to one of his famous acoustic guitars, but apparently he decided to “Let it Be.”

In August 2010, McCartney played the first-ever event at CONSOL Energy Center to open the brand-new state-of-the-art facility with back-to-back performances. The legendary member of the Beatles and Wings played his hit “Yesterday” with an acoustic guitar that featured a Detroit Red Wings logo. Penguins president/CEO David Morehouse and Pittsburgh mayor Luke Ravenstahl gave McCartney a Penguins sticker and in his second show, McCartney played the classic “Yesterday” with the Penguins logo above the Red Wings.

Over two years later, McCartney is still using that guitar, and it still sports the Penguins logo.

On Wednesday night, McCartney took part in the “12-12-12 Concert” at Madison Square Garden in New York City to benefit victims of Hurricane Sandy. McCartney was the final performer of an all-star night that included talents like Bruce Springsteen, Pink Floyd, Eric Clapton, the Rolling Stones, The Who, Kanye West, Alicia Keys and more.

During McCartney’s set, the music icon played “My Valentine” with his acoustic guitar – with the Penguins and Red Wings logos still prominently displayed.

Below is a video of McCartney playing "Yesterday" in Mexico City in May of this year. As you can see, McCartney is still reppin' the "Blackbird." Now isn't that "Something"?
