Jordan Staal Q & A From The NHL Awards Media Availability in Las Vegas
/ Pittsburgh Penguins
Penguins forward Jordan Staal spoke with reporters in Las Vegas on Tuesday. The 21-year-old center is in Sin City for the annual NHL Awards Show, which will be held on Wednesday night at the Pearl Concert Theater inside The Palms Hotel and will be nationally broadcast at 7:30 p.m. on VERSUS.
Following is the transcript of Staal's scrum with reporters:
On having a second surgery to complement the one he had during the playoffs on his lacerated tendon: Yeah, I just had a minor procedure. Just to kind of help it move along quicker and heal faster.
On when he had the second procedure: It was about three weeks ago.
On how everything went with the procedure and how long he has to wear a boot: Yeah, I have a few more weeks in the boot and therapy.
On watching the final month of the postseason following back-to-back long runs: Different, yeah. Definitely different. This thing (boot) kind of slows it down a bit. It is a long summer when you don’t make it as far as we did the last few years. But it should be a good time to rest and hopefully we’ll have a great season next year.
On whether the rest has helped him at all: My body still feels pretty beat up. I do feel a lot better. I have that itch to get going again, and working out and getting that stick in my hand. That is always a good feeling mentally. I think right now my body is starting to feel a lot better. Once this thing (foot) heals up I should be ready to go.
On the Selke Trophy: I’m sure the guy that earns it is going to win it. Whether it is me or the other two guys, we’ll see how it goes. I am just excited to be here and be named top three in the league and just happy to part of the situation.
