UNIONDALE, N.Y. – The Islanders rallied for three goals Thursday night to post a 3-1 win over the Penguins.
Colby Armstrong got the Penguins on the scoreboard with 3:05 left in the first period. Gary Roberts picked up an Islanders turnover, skated into the zone and sent a pass from the far boards to Armstrong on the near side. Near the crease, he one-timed it into the net. Sergei Gonchar added an assist.
Trent Hunter wristed a shot past Marc-Andre Fleury 2:37 into the second period for a power-play goal.
Jason Blake fired a puck past Fleury 5:12 into the period for a 2-1 Islanders lead.
Evgeni Malkin was awarded a penalty shot with 13:34 left in the second, but Rick DiPietro stopped the shot to preserve New York’s lead.
Viktor Kozlov wristed a shot past Fleury from the slot 1:42 into the third period for a 3-1 Islanders lead.
