"In My Own Words" Episodes To Air On FSN

by Staff Writer / Pittsburgh Penguins

FSN Pittsburgh will continue its highly-successful “In My Own Words” series with a pair of episodes on two men who have played prominent roles in the Penguins organization – Jack Riley and Eddie Johnston.

Tune into these episodes:

In My Own Words: Jack Riley (Air date: Dec. 5, 7:30 p.m.)

The spring of 1967 was a bitter sweet time for hockey fans in Pittsburgh. The Hornets of the AHL had just won the Calder Cup Championship…but were closing up shop to make way for the brand new Pittsburgh Penguins. The NHL’s expansion to 12 teams gave one man an opportunity to start something special by starting from scratch. That man was Jack Riley, but his job as the Pens’ first-ever general manager was not as smooth as the ice his team played on.

In My Own Words: Eddie Johnston (Air date: Dec. 6, 7:30 p.m.)

“EJ” made a name for himself as goaltender with the Boston Bruins, back when the man behind the mask did not wear one his entire career. It was not usual for Johnston to play in every minute of every game, even with numerous injuries, including one from a teammate that almost ended his career. Later, he moved behind the bench and then upstairs, but will always be remembered as the general manager who officially brought Mario Lemieux to Pittsburgh. Even with No. 66 on the ice, Johnston’s time in the Penguins front office was filled with many interesting twists and turns.
