Crosby/Malkin Updates: 5/5/15

by Michelle Crechiolo / Pittsburgh Penguins

After sitting out Russia's first game of the 2015 World Championship, a 6-2 win over Norway on Friday, Penguins center Evgeni Malkin played in each of his country's last two contests. He went pointless in their 5-3 win over Slovenia on Sunday and their 4-2 loss to the United States on Monday.

Malkin, who is wearing No. 11 in the tournament as former Devil Ilya Kovalchuk is wearing No. 71, skated 14:12 minutes against Slovenia and 18:22 minutes against the U.S. They will continue round-robin play on Thursday at 10:15 a.m. vs. Denmark.

Meanwhile, Sidney Crosby has now scored in each of Canada's three games, all wins. The Pens captain has three goals over his streak, all coming different ways. After converting a penalty shot in their 6-1 win over Latvia in the tournament opener on Friday, he tallied shorthanded in Canada's 10-0 win over Germany on Sunday.

The Pens captain followed that up with a power-play goal in a 6-3 defeat of the Czech Republic on Monday, which was assisted by Flyers captain Claude Giroux. Twitter certainly had a lot of fun with that...

The undefeated Canadians will continue group play on Thursday at 2:15 p.m. against Sweden.
