Building Successfully Imploded

by Joe Sager / Pittsburgh Penguins
The old St. Francis Hospital building was imploded successfully Saturday afternoon.

Due to weather conditions (low cloud cover), the contractor, Homrich Inc., in coordination with the public agencies, decided to move the time of implosion from early Saturday morning to 2:15 p.m. Saturday.

After a series of loud explosions, the building imploded and collapsed in a matter of seconds.

The building was leveled to make way for construction of the Penguins' new multipurpose arena.
