Since 1992, the Pittsburgh Penguins have proudly partnered with the Central Blood Bank in an effort to save lives.
For the past 16 years, the Penguins have participated in an annual blood drive. The Score One For Life Blood Drive is always scheduled at a time when blood donations typically drop to critically low levels. A long summer of low donation rates often culminates in a severe shortage of blood by September and is a good time to host a drive in an effort to shore up local supplies.
To date, the Penguins Score One For Life Blood Drives have yielded over 12,700 registered donors and over 10,800 units collected. This season, we hope to add substantially to that total and encourage our fans to participate as we host this year’s blood drive at Mellon Arena on Monday, September 28, 2009. The blood drive will be held in the West Lounge of Mellon Arena from 11:00 a.m. – 7:00 p.m. Fans participating in the 2009 Score One For Life Blood Drive may park for free in the North Lot off of Bedford Avenue. Please notify the parking lot attendant upon entry and enter Mellon Arena through Gate 3.
During the blood drive, Penguins broadcasters and team mascot, Iceburgh, will be on hand to meet donors and sign autographs. In addition, all donors will take home a custom-designed Pittsburgh Penguins/Central Blood Bank t-shirt and have an opportunity to win autographed memorabilia!
