Florida Panthers Executive Vice President and General Manager Dale Tallon announced today that the club has agreed to terms on two-year contract with Shawn Thornton.
“We are pleased to welcome Shawn to the Florida Panthers,” said Tallon. “He is a veteran, hardworking, physical player who brings tremendous leadership and toughness to our team.”
Thornton, 36, has played in 559 National Hockey League games for Chicago (2002-2006), Anaheim (2006-2007) and Boston (2007-2014) scoring 38 goals with 50 assists and 906 PIM. He has played in 101 post-season games registering seven points (1-6-7) with 81 PIM. The 6-foot-2 215-pound right wing has recorded 100 or more penalty minutes four times in his NHL playing career. He is a two-time Stanley Cup Champion (Anaheim – 2007 & Boston – 2011).
The Oshawa, Ontario native was drafted by Toronto in the seventh round (190th overall) in the 1997 NHL Draft.
