SUNRISE, Fla. – The Florida Panthers announced today that seven Panthers players will represent their respective countries at the 2008 IIHF World Championship in Quebec City and Halifax from May 2 – May 19. The Panthers participants are D Jay Bouwmeester (Canada), LW David Booth (USA), G Craig Anderson (USA), D Magnus Johansson (Sweden), C Olli Jokinen (Finland), LW Ville Peltonen (Finland) and D Branislav Mezei (Slovakia).
, 24, will be participating in his third World Championship for Team Canada. The two previous times he represented his country, Bouwmeester brought home the Gold Medal in 2003 and 2005. Booth
, 23, will be participating in his first World Championship for Team USA. Booth competed for his country in the U-18 Championship in 2002 and the World Junior Championship in 2004.Anderson
, 26, will be participating in his second World Championship as he represented Team USA in 2006. Johansson
, 34, will be participating in his sixth World Championship for his native Team Sweden. Johansson was part of the 2006 Swedish team that won the World Championship serving as the team’s alternate captain during the tournament.Jokinen, 29
, will be competing in his sixth World Championship for Team Finland. Jokinen has 19 points (5-14-19) in his previous five appearances for Finland.Peltonen
, 34, will be competing in his 13th World Championship for Team Finland. Peltonen has won one Gold Medal (1995), four Silver Medals and two Bronze Medals in his 12 previous World Championship appearances. He has been named a Tournament All-Star three times in 1995, 1998, and 2004.Mezei
, 27, will be appearing in his third World Championship for Team Slovakia. He participated in the 2001 and 2004 tournaments.
The United States will open up the 2008 IIHF World Championship on May 2 at 8:15 p.m. against Latvia in the Halifax Metro Centre. The Gold Medal game will take place on May 18 at 1:00 p.m. at the Colisee Pepsi in Quebec City, Quebec.
