As camp started on Monday, Panthers head coach Kevin Dineen said that he wanted to get the team prepared for a quick season. And with no pre-season games to prepare in this shortened season, he thought the best way to do that is to have his players go through a controlled scrimmage.
Split up into two teams, the Panthers will host an intrasquad scrimmage Wednesday night at the JetBlue Practice Facility at the Saveology.com Iceplex in Coral Springs. The practice/scrimmage is set to begin at 7pm.
"We'll get some refs out there," said Dineen following Tuesday's practice. "I'll be in sweats because I don't know if it's going to be a complete scrimmage either. We're not going to waste a minute of these four, five days."
With the shortened camp, a scrimmage will boost up the competitive level of the sides as they play in a game like atmosphere. With the night-time "game", it'll give the players a chance to get used to game days again. That will hopefully help when it comes to getting off to a strong start.
"We certainly want to get off to a good start," said forward Jack Skille."Whoever has the best start in the league is going to be doing pretty well toward the end. These games are going to be really tight and they're going to mean twice as much every night."
And hopefully that crowd turnout Wednesday night will get the players juices flowing even more as they feel just a little bit more toward the game atmosphere.
