Rookie Rant: Hockey Season Is Almost Here!

by Staff Writer / Florida Panthers
Yendi
Following the huge success of last season's Kelli's Korner, floridapanthers.com would like to introduce this season's BOVA Panthers Ice Dancer blogger, Yendi. A rookie this season, Yendi will be sharing her thoughts on this upcoming season from what's going on with the dancers to what's going on and off the ice, as well as anything else that she cares to discuss in her blog known as ROOKIE RANT.

This week from The Rookie Rant I give you a behind the scenes run down from our squad photo shoot at Martin Lighting. We are getting ready for our trip to the Bahamas for the 2009-2010 Ice Dancer Calendar shoot. Plus, we got a chance to catch the only home pre-season game against the Dallas Stars – the boys whooped some serious hockey behind! This week we start the Rookie of the Week portion of the blog where I give you a little dish on the chosen rookie.

“As of right now, no more carbs,” was the announcement we heard from Nichole and Kelli at our last practice before squad photos. I am not sure if it’s because I am new to all of this, but the entire photo shoot was an incredible experience. Victoria Duke is our resident makeup artist and she brought along her squad to get us in superstar condition. There was also Paul Triana, who is the Mozart of hair, on hand with his staff. The set was amazing thanks to the folks at Martin Lighting, I felt like a superstar when I got my turn to take photos, even though I was the last one at one am (we were called in alphabetical order and when your name is spelled with a Y, well you know) it was definitely worth it. You will just have to tune in for the hotness that is the Panthers Ice Dancer photos when our season begins October 10.
This past week we finally got the email with the subject “BAHAMAS.” According to our directors, they were only able to take eighteen girls including all the veterans. I was a bit nervous about the odds of going to Bahamas for the shoot but I got it! I swear I was jumping up and down when I read my name on the list (I think my Dad was a little worried about me until I explained the reason for spazzing). We leave this Sunday for a couple of days and I have already visited the tanning salon – no need for pale bodies when the hottest dance team in South Florida is getting their sexy on. I will let you know all about our trip when we get back.

The pre season game against the Dallas Stars was so much fun!  It was awesome to hang with the girls during a hockey game! Cat, a fellow rookie, is an expert at hockey, especially Panther Hockey. The boys got penalty points for fighting, instigating, tripping and yet crushed the Stars 4-1! Get ready for an awesome season. We also had a chance to bond during our Panther Ice Dancer Social where the initiations took place; rookies had to dress like babies and run around Broward in small groups for a scavenger hunt - needless to say it was a blast.

Cat
This week’s rookie is Cat, our hockey expert! Not only is Cat absolutely gorgeous she is a smart girl with all the answers to your hockey questions. I got to know her a little better after auditions and she is the sweetest. Cat comes to practice ready and determined and works her tail off; she is truly inspiring and definitely keeps my energy up by just being around. Cat you rock!
Don’t forget this season we get started on Saturday, October 10 against the New Jersey Devils (BOO!) at the BankAtlantic Center. Get  your Panther Pride on!

XOXO,
Yendi
