I’m Dulce, second year veteran and Group Leader of Team 5, the “Ice Dolls”. I am so excited to be a part of the Lady Panthers for a second season. My journey to making the team has been one of the most amazing experiences and I’ve been so fortunate to be a part of this organization! I’ve savored every moment of the journey. Before preliminary auditions on August 11, I started preparing for what I knew would be tough competition. Being a returning veteran, a lot is expected from us.
To prepare the audition hopefuls, the Lady Panthers hosted prep classes to get the new girls ready. I was fortunate to be a part of this class and assist with exemplifying what a Lady Panther should be. Immediately, when I saw the new girls, I was blown away by the beauty and talent. I knew I had to be on my ‘A Game’ come audition day.
The night before auditions I had planned on getting a good night’s sleep, but there was an undeniable excitement in me that kept me awake all night! Before I knew it the day I had been waiting for had finally arrived. As I got ready, I felt my stomach fill up with butterflies. Nerves were quickly taking over. I drove to the BB&T Center and all I could think of was the unforgettable memories I have experienced as a Lady Panther and how I wanted to continue my journey with the organization. When I arrived, I walked into a room full of women hoping for one thing, to officially make the squad.
Our audition dance was choreographed by our 2011-2012 Lady Panther Captain Peggy; she challenged the new hopefuls and the returning veterans with a high energy demanding routine. I danced my heart out when my group went up on stage. I closed my eyes as I walked up to the white board where they had all the numbers of the girls passing on to the boot camp process, seeing my number there I could not help but have a huge smile on my face.
Boot camp was intense! Lots of cardio and choreography! After four days of numerous dance routine repetitions and sore muscles, it was the moment of truth, Final Auditions! The day our destiny would reveal itself, the question we all held deep inside to be or not to be a Lady Panther. It was the day to put all our hard work and sweat into effect and let ourselves shine on stage in front of the judges. We performed back to back routines and then all 55 finalists performed a solo piece.
Hearing my name called on that stage for a second year made this day just that much more special for me, to see the smile on those ladies faces as their names were also called made my smile brighter. With a stunning group of ladies, we are going to have an outstanding season! Can’t wait to see the view from the ICE!
