Rats Roundup - Single Game Tickets, Preseason Hockey & Matheson's Busy Offseason

by Kyle Morrison / Florida Panthers

Friday, the World’s Greatest Day™, is finally upon us. Take a break to celebrate that, and check out all the best Panthers content from this past week.

Let’s lead off with a bit of preseason news, as Panthers Executive Chairman Peter Luukko announced this week that the Panthers will face the Dallas Stars this preseason in London, Ontario.

That’s right, two of the most impressive NHL squads from last year will square off at Budweiser Gardens, home to the OHL’s London Knights. And Panthers defenseman Aaron Ekblad, who hails from nearby-ish Windsor, Ontario (roughly 100 miles away), was on hand for the press conference at the venue.

If you’re in the neighborhood, and want to see some Panthers action in the Great White North, tickets go on sale on August 15 at 10 a.m. at budweisergardens.com.

SINGLE GAME TICKETS ON SALE

Speaking of tickets going on sale, that’s exactly what happened with Panthers single game tickets earlier this week.

And if preseason hockey is your thing, well, you can’t beat the September 27 deal. The preseason opener – the first time the Cats will play on the ice at the BB&T Center since April’s playoffs – is actually a doubleheader. The Panthers will take on the Nashville Predators at 3:30 p.m. and again at 7 p.m., and your ticket will get you admission to both games.

Not a bad way to spend a late-September Saturday.

MATHESON GIVES BACK

It’s been a busy summer for Panthers defenseman Mike Matheson.

Coming off of an impressive playoff cameo, playing across from Aaron Ekblad on the Panthers top pairing, Matheson immediately turned around and suited up for the Canadian team at the IIHF World Championships. Not only did the 22-year-old show he belonged, he thrived, winning the tournament’s defensive MVP honors as his team took home the gold.

Now that he has World Champion on his resume, Matheson’s taking on another challenge – teaching hockey.

The Florida Panthers Ultimate Hockey School is in full swing, as area youth learn the basics of the game throughout the summer at the Panthers IceDen. Earlier, Logan Shaw stopped by for a few days, and this week, it was Matheson’s turn to be a guest instructor.

We caught up with Matheson to talk about the camp, Worlds and his preparation for the upcoming season – and it’s a can’t-miss piece of content, folks.
